My Life Without God

Just about everybody knows that Madalyn Murray O'Hair was the atheist who filed the Supreme Court case that resulted in prayer being banned from schools. She brought the suit in the name of her son, William Murray, and she raised him as a atheist.

But did you know that same William Murray is now a Christian and an activitist for returning prayer to school? As the head of the Religious Freedom Coalition, he has devoted his life to protecting the religious freedoms that his mother was devoted to destroying. And he's using what he learned helping his mother as an atheist activist to do it!

For most Christians in the US and other Western countries, persecution for our faith is beyond our understanding. And the true nature of Islam is a mystery to many.

Miracle of Miracles: A Muslim Woman's Conversion to Christ And Flight from the Perils of Islam by Mina Nevisa with Jim Croft sheds light on both of these subjects. Mina grew up in Tehran, the daughter of aristocratic fundamentalist Muslims.

She began questioning her faith as a teenager. If Allah is omnipotent, she asked, why did she have to pray in Arabic? Couldn't an all-powerful Allah understand her native tongue, Farsi? If Islam was the true religion, what danger could come from the mere mention of another faith or a holy book other than the Koran? Her questions brought the wrath of the man she knew as her kind, loving father. Nevertheless, she continued to question and search, although in secret.

A supernatural experience and a series of miracles led to her accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and to a marriage to a man who, unknown to her, was also a secret Christian. One Christian friend was arrested and executed for her faith, another was arrested, and Mina barely made it out the back door as officials were at the front door to arrest her. She and her husband made a dangerous escape from Iran with the help of many other secret Christians.

In spite of extreme difficulties, they felt the Lord's guidance and protection through their flight, which covered several countries over a period of years. Through the entire time, they spread the Gospel to other Muslims - since 1990 through Touch of Christ Ministries, which they describe as "a ministry wholly dedicated to reaching Muslims with the Good News of Jesus Christ."

They have experienced many miracles in their lives, and the "miracle of miracles" was the answer to more than twenty years of prayer. Mina's powerful testimony reminds us that God is All-Powerful, He does answer prayers, He still performs miracles today, and salvation is a gift worth persecution and even death.

Unveiling Islam: An Insider's Look at Muslim Life and Beliefs by Ergun Mehmet Caner and Emir Fethi Caner is another excellent book about Islam and the persecution of those who convert to Christianity. The Caner brothers are former Sunni Muslims who converted to Christianity. Both are active in their faith and share their experiences and the realities of Islam.Most of us cannot fathom being persecuted for our faith. Yet Muslims who convert to Christianity do so at the risk of death at the hands of their own families.

Christians, not only former Muslims, are being persecuted around the world today, and Voice of the Martyrs brings their plight to the attention of the world through the Persecution Blog.

Miracle of Miracles reminds us that all Christians must pray for persecuted Christians and for the salvation of Muslims. The threat of radical Islam can best be met by spreading the Gospel to those in the dark. Muslims practice a religion of harsh rules, submission, and violence. Christians have a personal relationship with a loving Savior who offers eternal life.

I have to ask myself: Could I stand up to persecution for my faith? I pray so.
